Cooler Weather!
14 September 2009 by Shari.
Ok. So maybe not so much cooler, but at least we are getting rain. Someone told me that since we had such a dry hot summer, our September would be very rainy. They seem to be right, so far anyway.
It is nice to have somewhat cooler weather. With this weather, our fall vegetables should be taking hold. I still have okra going and am getting ready to put in some beans. I love fall gardening!
What are you growing in your fall garden?

Drought Tolerant?
6 July 2009 by Shari.
So, what’s the big deal about planting material that is drought tolerant? Here in Fort Bend County we haven’t had significant rain in over a month! That is a long time. The public areas that are planted with water loving plants are suffering…Even home landscapes are deteriorating to the point where homeowners are pouring the water on.
This isn’t a big surprise in Southeast Texas in July. However, we’re using a lot of water, more than normal. And water is a valuable resource that is not being replenished at the rate we are using it. Most of the areas using the most water are the ones where little consideration to drought tolerant plantings occurred.
Water use could be reduced in the landscape…..it’s simple and we could save a valuable resource. What can you do?

Hot Tamale!
9 June 2009 by Shari.
Wow! It sure got hot really fast. Gardening is fun, even therapeutic - but I don’t know how long I can take it in the heat! We have had some crazy weather patterns lately, ranging from cool days at the end of May to 95 degrees now (and very humid)! The heat is typical for here and I was ready for that but those cool days sure were nice.
These weather patterns wreck havoc on those of us who love to garden! But it probably has affected the plants just the same. At least we can get into the air conditioning every once in a while. The plants have no alternative to the heat. And, just like us they go through the weather changes which is not normal.
So, we know how it affects us, but what about the plants? Any ideas?….
